Interpreting the signs and symbols associated with the figure of the city’s Patron Saint through the language of contemporary art, this year’s project takes the form of an exhibition, realised with the support of curators Gianluca Collica and Patrizia Monterosso. For the first time, the exhibition brings together artists from across Europe and unfolds across all five floors of the fON Art Gallery in Aci Castello (CT).
Structured into four sections — The Contest – State Changes, A Year with Agata, The Archive, and Unplugged — the exhibition offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the cult and traditions surrounding Saint Agatha through a range of artistic languages and perspectives.
The Contest brings together twenty artists invited to engage with the theme State Changes, conceived by curator Mario Bronzino: those moments of transformation, subtle yet decisive, that shape the course of things, from physics to human experience, from society to art.
A Year with Agata presents works by Gaetano Gambino (photography) and Luisa Gentile (string art), winners of the previous edition’s contest. Their works document a twelve-month process of research and production, developed through a creative dialogue with Saint Agatha and the OELLE Foundation.
The Archive brings together works from the Agata on the Road Archive of the OELLE Foundation, a collection built through acquisitions, donations, and loans from previous editions of the project.
Finally, Unplugged, a new feature of the 2025 edition, brings together artists invited to express their individual artistic practices freely, without necessarily engaging with the theme of Saint Agatha. The section aims to foster a direct and authentic dialogue between artistic practice, the local territory, and its visitors.
